Title : Advancements in pulmonology and respiratory care through the view of Personalized and Precision Medicine (PPM) and biodesign-driven translational applications
Abstract:
A new systems approach to diseased states and wellness result in a new branch in the healthcare services, namely, Personalized and Precision Medicine (PPM). In this sense, recent advancements in understanding respiratory diseases have paved the way for personalized medical treatments, considering individual genetic, molecular and environmental factors. PPM, which accommodates individual differences in disease susceptibility and response to treatments, aims to improve patient care by aligning medical research with tailored therapies. Customizing therapies to the unique genetic, metabolic, and environmental elements that affect a person's respiratory health is known as PPM-guided pulmonology, or Personalized & Precision Pulmonology (PPP). This strategy aims to improve patient outcomes and transform the field of pulmonary medicine by offering more individualized and efficient interventions. Further investigation into OMICS-related biomarkers, such as circulating proteins, microRNAs, and metabolites, will help find non-invasive indicators for respiratory disease diagnosis and tracking.Innovative technologies, including NGS sequencing, GWAS, genomic and proteomic microarrays, and biomarker identification and screening contribute to this approach, allowing for customized treatments and the identification of effective PPM-guided therapies. Additionally, the application of PPM-driven approaches in lung cancer treatment exemplifies the forefront of individualized care within respiratory medicine. In this context, the need for innovative lung disease treatments has become critical since the diseases remain the world’s biggest killer. The pace of innovation in PPP is becoming fast. The latest innovations, including confocal laser endomicroscopy and molecular imaging deliver visibility into cellular activity that enables physicians to assess areas of concern in cases where conventional pulmonary diseases (including lung cancers) screening returns ambiguous results. The unique ability to see cells in real time allows physicians to classify areas of interest or concern with confidence. A revolutionary approach to respiratory care, PPM in pulmonology promises more individualized and efficient therapies for patients with a range of lung disorders or pre-illness persons-at-risk. The recent advancements hold immense promise for transforming the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of respiratory diseases. By leveraging cutting-edge technologies and embracing a multidisciplinary approach, clinicians are poised to make significant strides in improving respiratory health outcomes. Through collective trans-disciplinary efforts, we can ensure that the benefits of pulmonology advancements are leading to better respiratory health for individuals and communities worldwide.
